About the role
The role sits within the Zimbabwe country programme. The key function of the role is to manage the Social and Economic Justice thematic pillar of the Zimbabwe programme and ensure quality implementation while building and maintaining sound relationships with key stakeholders. The post-holder oversees work with partner organisations to ensure the Social and Economic Justice initiatives and are coordinated effectively in line with CA Zimbabwe country priorities and policies. The post holder will be a member of the Christian Aid Zimbabwe Programme Leadership Team that steers the programme strategies for the Zimbabwe programme.
Duties and Responsibilities
Key outcomes
• Support the growth and implementation of social and economic justice theme – including
ensuring coherence, standardized approaches, and programme quality, and quality reporting to
donors, across the Zimbabwe social and economic justice programmatic theme and provide
expert advice on social and economic justice and cross cutting aspects in other programmes.
• In collaboration with the Economic Justice Coordinator shared with Malawi, programme and
advocacy leads, support the integration of programmes and policy to ensure that programmes
are working towards achieving same aims, and leveraging impact in line with Christian Aid
Zimbabwe Country Strategy.
• Support team and partner risk analysis related to programme activities before implementation
and provide strategic steer on amending activities and approaches where necessary.
• Working with the Monitoring and Evaluation Manager; support social and economic justice
programme teams and partners in developing and applying appropriate monitoring, evaluation,
accountability and learning (MEAL) tools in relation to Christian Aid’s Zimbabwe’s ambition;
• Support the development and implementation of programme reviews and evaluations, learning
events and specific programme-related research activities on social and economic justice;
• Support CA Zimbabwe staff and partners in mainstreaming gender throughout Christian Aid
Zimbabwe’s work;
• Support the identification of capacity building needs and opportunities for Christian Aid
Zimbabwe staff and local partner organisations
• Represent Christian Aid Zimbabwe externally in relevant partner, NGO or government
coordination platforms; develop alliances with organisations and other relevant stakeholders
working on social and economic justice with a view to enhancing coordination, and adopting
complementary approaches including active participation in relevant coordination and planning
mechanisms.
Qualifications and Experience
Applied skills/knowledge and expertise
Essential
• A Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Social sciences, International relations, Development
work, Economics, Human rights, Law, or a relevant discipline.
• Knowledge and a minimum of 7 years’ experience of social/economic/gender justice
programme management.
• Knowledge of global development issues, including policy and advocacy issues and familiarity
with inequality issues relevant to Zimbabwe and SADC.
• Knowledge of the political, social and economic context of the region and the development
issues and challenges it faces.
• Experience in use of capacity building tools and techniques.
• Knowledge of Safeguarding, Core Humanitarian Standard, Sphere and Red Cross Code of
Conduct and other programming standards.
• Knowledge of gender, inclusion and the resilience approach in relief and recovery.
• Experience of strategic planning and management of large and complex budgets.
• Relevant experience of emergency project/programme management working with and through
local partners.
• Experience in working with the media.
Desirable
• Relevant post-graduate degree in development, law or humanitarian disciplines.
• Knowledge of the role of churches and ecumenical organizations in relief and development.
• Experience in policy and advocacy work at country or regional levels.
