A locally registered national membership umbrella body whose mission is to promote and support palliative care in Zimbabwe has an exciting new opening for a suitably qualified person to fill in the position of Program Assistant for a TB program that has risen. The Program Assistant will be responsible for assisting the implementation and management of the TB program within the project’s districts. This entails day to-day follow up and providing updates to the Program Coordinator and management, on the project’s performance, as well as compiling activity and progress reports. He/she will provide palliative care technical support to build the capacity of the TB program consortium partners and MOHCC institutions personnel within the respective districts. He/she shall have the primary responsibility to ensure the efficient and effective provision of quality care to TB patients including people living with HIV and AIDS through palliative care interventions. The overall responsibilities of the Program Assistant are listed below.

Duties and Responsibilities

Overall responsibilities
Plan for palliative care and related community-based training activities under the TB project; Participate in development and distribution of home-based Palliative Care IEC materials; Prepare appropriate training materials for trainers and community health care workers including Village Health Workers (VHW); Conduct palliative care training for trainers and community health care workers to ensure project activities are tailored to meet DR-TB patients’ needs; Provide mentorship support while disseminating information and expert guidance to trainers and caregivers during mentorship and regular supervisory support visits; Promote community awareness on palliative care needs and psychosocial support (PSS) for DR-TB patients, among leadership and other stakeholders; Facilitate linkages and information sharing between the partner organizations and health facilities participating in the TB project within the district; Participate in project monitoring to ensure implementing partner (IP) activities are in line with project objectives and set targets; Participate in developing monitoring tools and indicators for the project; Ensure timely submission of reports as well as maintenance of comprehensive project activity records; Participate in activities to disseminate programme evaluation findings; Advocate for implementation of palliative care for improving the quality of life for TB patients through prevention, treatment, care and support activities.

Qualifications and Experience

Minimum qualification and experience
Nursing Diploma/ Degree; A minimum of five years’ nursing experience; Palliative Care Training desirable; Experience in Palliative Care and/or TB programming is an added advantage; Experience in palliative care training and working with diverse communities; Ability to undertake regular field visits and interact with different stakeholders; A self-starter with critical thinking, and ability to work under work pressure; Good written and verbal communication skills; A clean class four driver’s licence.
