1. OVC Family Strengthening Assistant - BULAWAYO

Main Purpose of the Job:
Under the supervision of the Senior programme officer, the project Assistant will be responsible for implementing the economic strengthening activities using the Savings and Internal Lending Community (SILC) methodology. S/he will carry out their duties with a focus on mentoring and coaching of field agents who are responsible for the direct implementation of the SILC activities. S/he will ensure that all activities related to SILC in the project are implemented according to agreed standard operating procedures. He or she will also assist in the implementation of other family strengthening such as parenting interventions contributing to the project outcomes on the stable and safe domains.

Project Implementation and Technical Support

• Identification and enrolment of eligible program beneficiaries
• Proactively contribute to strategic thinking on SILC issues for the Pathways project
• Support in the development / review and timely implementation of SILC project work plans and activities, by ensuring the active engagement of all field agents and communities involved
• Provide direct technical assistance field agents to ensure technical soundness and high-quality SILC programming.
• Manage the SILC component of the project with a focus on mentoring and coaching of the SILC field agents and supervisors.
• Ensure the quality of SILC groups in target areas through regular field visits and spot checks
• Ensure timeliness and accuracy of SILC field agent reporting
• Lead the recruitment/replacement and training processes for field agents
• Ensure the quality of SILC groups through regular field visits and spot checks
• Support in the roll out of Positive parenting interventions through use of developed guidelines/curriculum
• Support in preparing narrative and MIS reports
• Organize and facilitate project events with local leaders, agents, and groups, as needed
• In coordination with the MEAL Officer, ensure timely and quality capturing of MEAL data on SILC.
• Ensure contribution to timely completion of project performance tools including detailed implementation plans (DIPs) and indicator tracking tables (ITT) as it relates to SILC activities and deliverables in target area.
• Document the implementation process, lessons learnt and success stories in each year of program implementation.
• Contribute to ensuring accountability to project beneficiaries and local stakeholders


Coordination with stakeholders and local partners:

• Liaise with line ministries and departments in the development and timely dissemination of OVC and DREAMS surveillance system and findings.
• Liaise with stakeholders, including donor agencies in the information sharing
• Provide information-based reports that reflect coordinated efforts pursued by various programmes

Administrative and Other Duties:
• Participate in proposal development
• Overall planning of stock levels, making sure that they are sufficient for the functioning of program
• Submit timely transport request and ensure the availability of logistics during visits
• Respect IT and Administration procedures – specific attention to scan of computers to avoid viruses + regular backup of program documents
• Submit timely stock request orders
• Respect of financial and admin procedures
• Share issues and solutions, achievements and get guidance as necessary
• Under the direction of the Senior Program officer, take up responsibilities such as work planning, attendance at district meetings.



Qualifications and Experience

Qualification, Knowledge and Skills Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in social sciences or other related field
• 3 years of working experience in development or savings and loans programs – including focus on at least one of the following sectors – income generation and livelihoods.
• Previous experience working with volunteers and vulnerable communities
• Experience with participatory methods and partnerships.
• Excellent training and facilitation skills.
• Good time management skills with ability to work on multiple tasks
• Proactive, resourceful, solutions oriented and results-oriented
• Excellent organization, planning and analytical skills; detail oriented
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with demonstrated strength in relationship in community engagement and people volunteer management
• Fluency in Ndebele a distinct advantage
• Proficient in MS Office packages (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), Web Conferencing Applications, knowledge-sharing networks.
