VSO Is Looking For A Mental Health Advisor - Psychiatrist
Duties and Responsibilities
The goal of this job is to provide a technical support to mentally detained patients at the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services (ZPCS). The overall placement objective is to contribute towards the inclusion of detained mental health inmates in the provision of quality health programming by practicing forensic psychiatry. This role will capacitate ZPCS to assess and treat of mentally defective offenders, support writing affidavits for the Criminal mental patients who are now stable and prepare patients Detained Mental Patients for special board and mental health review tribunal.
Qualifications and Experience
Skills, qualifications and experience
- A university medical degree in Psychiatry (Forensic psychiatry is an added advantage)
- A minimum of five years progressive professional experience in Forensic Psychiatry
- Experience of working in Correctional facilities is an added advantage;

Allowance
As a VSO volunteer, you will be sharing your skills with local communities on a full time basis. VSO will cover your travel, vaccinations, accommodation, and medical insurance costs, along with a local living allowance which will be paid in local currency. This allowance meets reasonable living expenses in country, but will not be enough to send money home. You will also receive some financial support to contribute to your on-going expenses at home.

VSO works with some of the poorest communities in the world which means accommodation varies and will be basic.
