Job Description

The Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) is responsible for working within the established guidelines of the Laboratory Department as assigned. As a professional, the MLS is responsible for carrying out high quality routine and specialised laboratory testing services to produce accurate and reliable clinical results used in patient diagnosis, treatment, and management.
Foremost among these responsibilities are strictly adhering to detail in the technical performance of laboratory procedures, solving practical and analytical problems and implementing constructive change.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Examining and analysing body fluids, tissues and cells, whilst following standardized analytical procedures.
• Assess specimen suitability for processing.
• Carrying out quantitative and qualitative analyses.
• Evaluation and interpretation of test results.
• Using complex computer systems for data entry, retrieval and analysis
• Operating, maintaining and troubleshooting of clinical machines.
• Ensuring quality control throughout the laboratory such as reagent calibration and control.
• Supervising inventory by conducting stock takes and maintaining the required stock count.
• Checking on pre-analytical, analytical and post analytical processes.
• General laboratory organisation.

Qualifications and Experience

Job requirements:

• Extensive knowledge and experience in haematology, immunochemistry, biochemistry, molecular, serology and microbiology departments.
• Knowledge and experience in histology is an added advantage.
• Strong communication, organizational and time-management skills.
• Ability to work efficiently under pressure.
• Strong attention to detail.

Job Qualifications:

• HBMLSc [Medical Laboratory Sciences]
• Two [2] + years of experience as a MLS.
• Current Practicing Certificate from the Medical Laboratory Council of Zimbabwe [MLCZ].
