Job Description

The University seeks to recruit applicants with requisite qualifications, skills and experience for the following posts in the Legal Services Section. Legal Officers are responsible for monitoring and/or advising on all legal affairs within the University. They handle both internal and external legal concerns. The incumbents will strengthen and support the capacity of the Legal Services Section under the direction and guidance of the Director of Legal Services.

Duties and Responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities
Contract Drafting, Reviewing and Management
 Draft contracts and review proposed contracts;
 Undertake contract risk analysis;
 Conduct legal research and analysis and prepare legal opinions, studies, briefs and reports;
 Advise the University on compliance requirements;
 Provide advice to University Academic and Business Units on matters relating to relevant
legislation and regulations;
 Evaluate and protect the University’s legal interests, reducing its litigation risk;
 Provide advice on the registration of Intellectual Property rights and the rights and
obligations that arise from them;
 Liaise with external University legal counsel and other stakeholders in matters involving the
University;
 Litigation management through review of cases and tracking progress on various litigation
cases;
 Any other duties as assigned by the Director of Legal Services from time to time.
Legal Administration, Policy Formulation and Implementation
 Draft all legal documents and ensure that other contractual documents are legally sound, vetted,
reviewed and interpreted;
 Draft, develop and implement relevant guidelines/procedures/manuals such as those pertaining to
investigations procedures and ethics, search of premises, etc;
 Follow up on all key developments or best practices and recommend appropriate policy and legal
review;
 Any other duties as assigned by the Director of Legal Services from time to time

Qualifications and Experience


Qualifications and Experience
 Bachelor of Laws (LLB) Degree and 3 years’ experience. Master of Laws (LLM) will be an
advantage.
 Litigation and drafting experience required.
 Experience in Intellectual Property will be an added advantage.
 Experience in working in academic environments is an added advantage.
Attributes
The ideal candidates must be of mature disposition, reliable, honest and have high ethical values.
The candidates must also be analytical and methodical; with good coordination skills and be able to
keep confidential records in a secure and retrievable manner. In addition, they must be able to work
both independently and as a team; as well as have the ability to work under pressure. Computer
literacy is a must.
