Job Description

Job Purpose
The incumbent will be responsible for coordinating the servicing and repair of business’ fleet so as to ensure that it is roadworthy and compliant with the Traffic and Road regulations. The incumbent will be responsible for ensuring that everything goes smoothly at a Garage.

Duties and Responsibilities


• Plans, schedules, coordinates, supervises and occasionally participates in the work of mechanics in servicing, repairing and maintaining motor vehicles of the business fleet.
• Diagnoses malfunctions of the vehicles brought for repairs and determines the corrective measures to make the vehicle go back on the road.
• Advises mechanics and semi-skilled personnel regarding the fabrication and use of materials, parts and equipment, conducts road, field or shop tests to determine if reported malfunction or conditions have been corrected
• Maintains job work orders; keeps records of labour, materials, parts, supplies and other records necessary in the repair and maintenance process; controls the release of serviced and repaired vehicles; maintains accurate, updated records of vehicle service, repairs and maintenance; maintains and submits reports concerning mileage and fuel consumption; and maintains an adequate supply of parts, tools and equipment.
• Monitors quality, cost and time taken for vehicle repairs by suppliers.
• Ensures that all vehicles conform with all Traffic and EMA Regulations (fire extinguishers, break down triangles, reflectors
• Tests serviced vehicles to ensure quality and communicates with vehicle users on vehicle performance after service. Explains to vehicle users their automotive problems and the repairs done on their vehicles.
• Attends to breakdowns and accidents within set time limits and takes corrective measures to defects noted during an accident or breakdown and VID/police reports
• Carries out periodic visits to suppliers to maintain cordial working relationships and ensure service delivery.

Qualifications and Experience


• 6 O levels including English
• Journeyman Class 1 Motor Mechanics or equivalent, Clean Class 1- 4 Drivers Licence and valid Defensive Driving Certificate.
• Five years progressively responsible experience at the journeyman level and demonstrated supervisory ability.
• 3 to 5 years’ experience in a similar or related environment
