Program Description

This program is the Agricultural component of the Anglo American Unki Mine Social Development program. The program will support smallholder farmers in the horticulture, beef, and poultry value chains, establishing market access through contract production in partnership with private sector companies during a three-year program. The market-driven program will support training of over 600 smallholder farmers in agricultural best practices, facilitate construction of farming and processing infrastructure, creating over 1,900 jobs by year 3.

Role Description

Under the direct supervision of The Agricultural Value Chains Manager, you will:
Operations
• Support the AVC Manager to recruit select and train farmers on all aspects of GAP and Good Animal Husbandry Practices.
• Support farmers on all aspects of crop production, extension, including soil analysis, correction, land preparation and the rest of market-driven pre and post-harvest processes

Qualifications and Experience

• Implement GAP practices including IPM, traceability, GLOBALGAP and group Quality Management Systems in response to market requirements.
• Supervise construction of pre and post-harvest infrastructure.
• Train farmers in accordance with the agreed KPIs.
Stakeholder management
• Develop an excellent working relationship with the farmers, farmer groups, Program Manager, AVC Manager, Agritex personnel and all project partner organizations
Develop and nurture excellent working relations with all horticulture, poultry and beef sector stakeholders in Midlands province (exporters, private sector companies, Agritex, financial institutions and local authorities)

IV.Qualifications & Experience

• A minimum of 5 years' on-the-ground hands-on experience in the field of either Horticulture and/or livestock management.
• Knowledge of horticultural production for export, especially exotic baby vegetables, commercial beef and poultry production and smallholder farming
• Demonstrated experience in outgrowers production and private sector production
• Demonstrated teamwork and strong
interpersonal skills
• Tactical experience in several of the following key skills areas - horticulture, poultry production, cattle pen fattening, commercial farming, training, and coaching
• Ability to work independently, flexibly and responsively, and adapt to changing working conditions
• Prepared to be dirty
• Able to prioritize and meet deadlines
• Excellent oral & written presentation skills required
