CHOPPIES GROUP - COUNTRY MANAGERS

(based in Bulawayo Zimbabwe, Windhoek Namibia, Gaborone Botswana)

The Choppies Group is the largest grocery retailer in southern Africa, outside of South Africa. Operating 155 stores and eight distribution centres across the African continent, with a presence in 4 countries.

We are looking for competent Country Managers for Zimbabwe, Namibia & Botswana, who will play an integral role in setting the country’s strategic direction, development, and future growth. You will play an active and key role in managing the business and be part of a team to develop the business, increase market share of the current brands, and work on new store development.

This is a position in the C-suite of the Group overseeing several business departments. This role is authoritative and especially relevant in our diverse store base. A person in this role is expected to build rapport with other executives to stay efficient in handling the broad scope of responsibilities.

Duties and Responsibilities

Responsibility includes but is not limited to: -

Helping to guide sales strategies and execution across the territory.
Achieve monthly sales goals.
Manage the bottom line of the business, by effectively managing, monitoring and leading functions such as finance, sales, marketing, production and human resource management.
Provide local market intelligence to help inform central functions on areas such as customer-behaviour, target segments and competitive intelligence. Deliver on country-based brand awareness and marketing campaigns.
Ensure Choppies complies with local laws, legislation, and regulations relating to Choppies operations in Southern Africa.
Provide administrative support related to country operations and growth.
Attend weekly meetings/presentations with landlords and vendors to discuss growth and profit opportunities.
Create brand loyalty.
Ensure a high level of customer satisfaction to generate renewals and increase incremental revenue.

Qualifications and Experience

Qualifications & Skills

Previous working experience as a general manager, country head or a similar role for at least 5-10 years.
Effective negotiation and vendor management skills
Strategic thinking
Bachelor’s degree or a related field; MBA or other relevant graduate degree is a plus.
Exceptional team management skills.
Extensive industry knowledge with an eye towards the future.
Ability to Plan, Coordinate, and Control operational activities.

You will need to demonstrate:

Ability to juggle many tasks and projects simultaneously in a fast-moving environment and must be a self-starter who is excited about technology.
Builds and manages a high-performance team with a focus on operational excellence and continuous improvement to enable scalability to overcome challenges.
Self-starter, independent and able to switch easily from strategic to operational work
