Translation of "Flood Resilience Measurement for Communities Tool and Glossary" from English into Shona: Practical Action

Objective
The objective of the assignment is to provide a translation service to the Zurich Flood Resilience Alliance funded and Practical Action led Flood Resilience Measurement
Practical Action intends implementing the Flood Resilience Project for Communities (FRMC) in Muzarabani District of Zimbabwe funded by the Zurich Flood Resilience Alliance (ZFRA), a multi-sectoral partnership focusing on finding practical ways to help communities in developed and developing countries strengthen their resilience to flood risk. The project will utilise the FRMC Tool to collect data to inform the project’s Baseline and for which translation into Shona is sought.
Payment modality
Standard translation of FRMC Tool Questionnaires (on Excel) and Glossary (on Word) will be charged per word; A high quality translation will be delivered by the assigned timeline; Payment will be made in United States Dollars (US$); The rate per word paid shall be inclusive of all associated costs such as social security, income tax, etc; Withholding tax deductions to be effected on payment.

Duties and Responsibilities

Scope of work
The translator will undertake the following duties and responsibilities: Make typed translation and submit translation in Microsoft processed documents i.e., Word format (for the Glossary) and in Excel format ( for the resilience sources questionnaires); Proofread and edit the documents and share draft translations with FRMC project team; Translate all texts contained in the documents except names of organizations, sources and website links which are to be retained as is; Ensure high quality, accuracy and correct terminology of the entire documents before submitting it to the FRMC Project Leader; Ensure that the translation is written with style, correct grammar and spellings; Complete the work within the agreed timeline and submit the final translation in soft copy.

Qualifications and Experience

Required skills and experiences
Preferably Master's degree in Disaster Risk Management/Reduction, International Development and Natural Resources Management and minimum of Bachelors’ degree in Disaster Risk Management/Reduction, or related specialization; At least 10 years of professional experience in/with working in NGOs in the field of disaster sciences and management; Proof of previous translated works 1e. translation and interpretation from English to Shona and vice versa in the above mentioned fields; Demonstrated good understanding of technical terms and terminology used in areas of disaster risk management, climate resilience and rural livelihoods.
Competencies
Excellent teamwork skills; Ability to work independently; and Excellent computer skills in excel, word and data processing and presentation.
