CARE began working in Zimbabwe in 1992 in response to a severe regional drought. After establishing a drought mitigation program, CARE began longer term developmental programs with local partners in building small dams, strengthening local microfinance institutions, and launching projects to assist small businesspersons in the rural areas.

Duties and Responsibilities

Job Description
As part of the Research and Business Development Unit, the incumbent will be mainly responsible for contributing to design, development and diffusion of CARE program’s communications material within CARE International as well as with external media and leading on the development of communication guidelines and policies.

Key duties and Responsibilities
• Leads on Country Office Annual Operating Plan (AOP) commitments related to communications and ensure accountability.
• Coordinates the development and implementation of a communication strategy and guidelines (including the use of social media) in line with CO Business Development Plan and in collaboration with RBDU staff, PM, IT, Security focal point and other relevant staff.
• Liaises with project-based communication staff, PM and RBDU staff to develop communications priorities on a quarterly basis/yearly basis and share with ACD for approval.
• Supports project-based communication staff/focal points in designing, developing/reviewing communications and branding material in compliance with donor, CIZ and CI policies/requirements.
• Acts as focal points for all info/communications request from CARE International (media/communication visits etc.)
• Supports the production of press releases, public statements, presentations and speeches
• Reviews Knowledge Management and Learning Products to adjust to external audience as required by the RBDU.
• Participates in learning events (internal) to extracts learning to be used in communications material.
• Liaises with IT to find ways of sharing material produced through CIZ, CI as well as external platforms when relevant
• As part of the RBDU, provides communications specific costing in project design.
• Keeps abreast of Resource Mobilisation priorities and provide guidance on shaping messaging, capacity statements, etc.
• Supports the RBDU and Projects in donor engagement events (e.g. policy engagement, etc.)

Qualifications and Experience

Qualifications
• Degree in communications, media studies, journalism or other relevant degree
• 4-6 years relevant experience in a Communications capacity
• Excellent writing ,analytical skills and problem solving skills
• Good Interpersonal / Communication skills with excellent conceptual skills
• Good Leadership and ability to work in a team cooperatively
• Excellent motivation and innovation skills
• Design and editing Computer skills (using applications such as corel draw and adobe packages)
