Job Description

A consultancy opportunity has arisen within a local human rights NGO which works nationally on access to justice and human rights issues. We invite junior lawyers who have an interest in children’s rights and can demonstrate that they have worked with and have represented children in conflict with the law in Zimbabwean Criminal Courts in the past. Research on children’s rights is an added advantage. The Consultant will be required to provide services for a specific number of days/ hours on a monthly basis. Consultant Activities

Duties and Responsibilities

Conduct weekly update meetings with project staff; Produce weekly, monthly and quarterly activity and project monitoring reports; Monitor project implementation on weekly basis and ensure targets are met; Attend all scheduled and ad hoc meetings under the project as and when required; Attend court sessions at least once a week; and Produce reports for all meetings attended on behalf of the organisation.Provide guidance to project staff on project implementation ensuring set goals and targets are met; Provide legal assistance to children in conflict with the law through court representation; Compile project reports on weekly, monthly and quarterly basis for management and funding partner; Facilitate weekly and monthly periodic review meetings with funding partners, stakeholders and project staff with the aim of ensuring that feedback is incorporated in the learning; Represent the LRF at meetings with funding partners and various other stakeholders; and Monitor project to assess progress and results identifying challenges and proffering solutions to same.

Qualifications and Experience

Qualifications and experience
LLBS; Masters in Law/ Development Studies / Business Administration; 3 years practicing law in Zimbabwe; Registered with the LSZ and has a current and valid practising certificate; and Experience working in civil society on access to justice issues is prerequisite. Additional Information. The consultancy period runs from the August to December 2020. The consultancy has a fixed monthly fee and as such there is no need for submission of budgets.
Skills and Competencies
Knowledge of human rights and access to justice issues; Excellent litigation skills and knowledge of the law especially on children’s rights; Excellent communication, presentation and interpersonal skills and must be proficient in both oral and written English; Excellent report writing skills and Sharp analytical and verbal reasoning skills.
