Job Description
Based in Harare and working within the Business Intelligence (BI) Team under the direction of the BI Team Leader and Head of ICT, The Data Architect works in conjunction with our Software Engineers, SRE and DBA Teams to play a leading role both within the design of individual databases and application data integration requirements, as well as the architecture of the overall data estate.
The Data Architect plays an important role within the organization, being responsible for:
• Setting and maintaining standards, frameworks, tools and methodologies for the organization and customers relational database environments.
• Monitoring and assuring the overall health of all production RDBMS environments.
• Managing, forecasting and planning for RDBMS growth in size and performance.
• Overseeing the planning, organization and management of all relational data across the organization.
• Overseeing or executing all RDBMS administration related tasks throughout the full database lifecycle.

Duties and Responsibilities

Responsibilities
• Help define Database and Data Management strategies to ensure data integrity, reliability and fitness for purpose.
• Analyse database implementations, data access, archival and retrieval methods used throughout the data lifecycle to ensure they are in-line with company policies and any industry regulations
• Create data monitoring models for new products, working with our SRE and Software Engineering teams to create models that meet the requirements of future software roadmaps and feature releases.
• Develop database design and architecture, produce documentation and champion with both internal teams as well as customers.
• Work in conjunction with the DBA, Infosec and SRE Teams to ensure integrity and security of company data and databases.
• lead in the development of long-term planning for new projects, including the architecture design, planning, installation and commissioning of new RDBMS environments.
• Develop ongoing assessments of database performance and identify problem areas.
• Work with the DBA Team to evaluate database storage requirements for current systems and future growth, perform space and performance monitoring, analysis, tuning and forecasting.
• Play a leading role in oversight of RDBMS data assets including facilitating organisation wide system integration, data sharing, archival/migration of data to data lakes or warehouses and guiding practices around data pruning

Qualifications and Experience

Qualifications
The post holder will be expected to have:
• 5+ years’ experience in a data analysis or data management role
• Highly capable of working autonomously, able to produce deliverables with minimal external direction and input.
• Knowledge of Python an advantage
• Certifications and formal training in Microsoft SQL Curriculum or PostgreSQL an advantage.
• Deep working knowledge of general SQL queries and commands.
• Experience of recent and current editions of Microsoft SQL Server (2012 – 2019).
• Experience of recent editions of PostgreSQL (9.6 – Current).
• Linux and Windows CLI and scripting (Bash, Powershell).
• Experience leading in creation of data models, ERD’s and technical documentation.
• Strong experience with SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), PowerBI or equivalent BI Reporting toolsets.
• Experience with NOSQL solutions such as ELK stack or MongoDB an advantage.
• Experience with opensource reporting solutions such as Grafana an advantage.
• A background working in Banking, Financial Services or equivalent ‘Blue Chip’ level enterprises.
• Excellent reporting and written communication skills.
• Ability to work within a multinational team with colleagues from a wide range of professional backgrounds and contribute to the development of team culture and the achievement of common objectives.
• Ability to work without supervision and organise own workload and manage time effectively.
