Job Description

Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced candidates to fill the following positions which have arisen within the Commission.
ACTUARIAL AND RESEARCH DEPARTMENT
ACTUARIAL ANALYSTS (4) [Pensions, Life, Short term and Data Science]

Duties and Responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities include:
 Review of actuarial reports from the industry including those for proposed new products
 Assess actuarial matters during onsite examination of insurance companies
 Develop standards and procedures for the monitoring and supervision of the insurance industry
 Provide support to core departments on various technical actuarial issues;
 Contribute to IPEC's strategic goals in supervising the insurance and pensions industry
 Contribute to the analysis and communication of key insights on the Zimbabwean Insurance and Pensions industry.
 Participate actively in projects being undertaken
 Exploring and expanding actuarial knowledge to emerging wider fields of Actuarial practice that are relevant to regulation of the local industry.
 Cultivate and maintain effective liaison with key internal and external stakeholders and provide regular feedback to management
Required competences and capabilities
 Sector Knowledge: good knowledge of the industry, its services, products, concepts, challenges and regulatory environment.
 Acts and regulation awareness: appreciation of relevant Acts, regulations, circulars, directives, guidelines, regional and international best practices;
 Technical Knowledge: must have insurance and pension professional and technical skills
 Commercial Awareness: ability to identify and recommend appropriate products and services which the industry could operationalize.
 Analytical Thinking: ability to identify, assess, absorb and interpret relevant information and statistics
 Research Capability: Ability to conduct research, benchmark, interrogate issues, synthesize and make appropriate recommendations.
 Report Writing: ability to write concisely, logically and appropriately for different audiences.
 Presentation: ability to present effectively and confidently at groups, committees and conferences.
Qualifications and Experience
The ideal candidates should have the following qualifications and experience :
 A numerate degree preferably in Actuarial Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Risk Management, Data Science or equivalent from a reputable university; and
 Demostrable progress towards Actuarial Fellowship, with a minimum of 2 actuarial passes attained from a recognised professional Actuarial body;
 Fluency in R,Python, SAS will be an added advantage.
 At least two years relevant experience within the financial services sector. However, if you can demonstrate that you have relevant transferrable skills from any role or sector (especially in wider fields of actuarial practice), this can be looked upon favourably.

RESEARCH ANALYST
Duties and Responsibilities include
 Researching and making appropriate recommendations on emerging best practice for the regulation and supervision of the insurance and pensions industry and related matters.
 Analysing Government Policy's implications on the insurance and pensions industry.
 Providing technical support in the drafting of insurance and pensions laws and regulatory guidelines/Circulars to ensure that they are in line with good practices
 Researching and making recommendations on correcting inefficiencies in the insurance and pensions industry which compromise safety of the sector.
 Researching, recommending and monitoring implementation of an appropriate AML/CFT guidance framework for the regulated entities.
 Conducting industry analysis using a variety of data sources.
 Coordinating and collaborating with other team members/departments to produce thorough and reliable deliverables.
REQUIRED SKILLS
 Must be a self-starter with strong critical thinking skills that excel at problem solving
 Knowledge of research techniques, and databases.
 Ability to review large amounts of data to determine required actions and potential trends.
 Excellent interpersonal and writing skills.
 Strong computer skills (Excel, databases)
 Good basic knowledge of the sector, its services, products, challenges and regulatory environment.
 Have insurance industry-specific technical skills or professional skills and experience.
 Ability to identify and recommend appropriate products and services that are in the interest of the public or industry.

 Degree in Actuarial, Insurance, Risk, Economics or equivalent qualification from a reputable institution.
 A relevant professional qualification will be an added advantage.
 At least 2 years post qualification relevant experience.
 An appreciation of insurance and pensions matters
